LOCAL TOWNS.
Grocery store in Aumes, 1 minutes walk.
All amenities in beautiful Pézenas (5 min drive). Huge choice of pavement café bars and restaurants.
On a Saturday morning Pezenas hosts one of the finest markets in the area. Lively and enjoyable we enjoy buying vegetables, cheeses, bread and eggs from the producers, rather like a huge farmers market. There are also many summer events to which visitors and locals are invited, making it a really memorable time.
Mediterranean beaches are only 25 minutes away, seafood restaurants line the quays. For the oyster and mussel lover it doesn’t get better, oysters out of the sea and a bottle of cold Picpoul wine..... simply wonderful!
WHEN YOU ARE HERE,
You will be relaxing in a wonderfully diverse region of France, where things change slowly, and where you have a society which values its traditions and ‘laisser faire’ above all else. You will appreciate a region which has remained true to its traditions, and is able to provide a range of interests of recreation for all ages and interests
Pezenas,10 minutes from Aumes is probably the most well known market town in the area where most of the houses date from the 17th century. The whole of the old town, which has officially been classified as part of the French National Heritage is original, and it is as it was when Moliere and his theatrical company used to live here. Throughout the 17th century, to be near the governors of the Languedoc province (the Montmorency and Conti families), the aristocracy built impressive private mansions with inner courtyards and gardens, which have retained their charm and elegance from this bygone age. Pezenas is well situated to satisfy the needs of all its visitors; lying between mountains and sea, beaches are twenty minutes drive away. Often called the Little Versailles, Pezenas has a wide range of arts and crafts, restaurants and places to visit. It is active all year round, so there is always something to see. Each summer there are many theatrical, musical and street theatre events .
The reaction of our visitors is a great reward for the effort we have made in preparing a home for our visitors which we would be happy to stay in ourselves.
We are very pleased to have been awarded Four Stars by the Comité Départmental du Tourisme, showing our commitment to the success of your holiday.
TWO VISITORS COMMENTS FROM 2009.
1- We have been to France nine times now, and this house is by far the best. It is well equipped and we loved the garden and pool. Colin, Colette and Chloe. (Marsanne)
2- We all voted Carignan the best holiday house we have ever rented and believe me there have been a lot of them over the years. It is spacious and well equipped and the garden and pool are charming. Your care of plants makes the garden a delight to be in. As for the pool, being heated made it somewhere that we all wanted to be and to have fun and laughter. I will recommend your house to friends and who knows, we may well come back. (I hope so). Linda
Description of the area:
If you have not visited this region of France before you have something very special to look forward to! Situated on the plain between the Mediterranean and the mountains there is something for all members of your family to enjoy being spectacular in both its countryside and traditions. Aumes is only 5 minutes from the wonderful market town of Pezenas, for many years in the 17th Century the centre of government for the Languedoc Roussillon. Only 20 minutes away are the sandy Blue Flag beaches of the Mediterranean. In the hills behind are the famous grottos of Clamouse and Demoisselles. Saint Guilham le Desert, which is a most picturesque hillside town lies alongside the River Herault with canoes for hire by the hour. Not far away is the regional leisure park of Bessilles. Here you find wide open spaces for picnics and family walks in woodland. There is an adventure ropeway in the trees suitable for all ages and abilities........... really good fun

Remarks:
We have tried to provide a "home from home" for our visitors, and they have been very complimentary about the house and the area. We believe this region of france to be very special, being so close to the sea and with all that it has to offer.
Leisure activities:
You can walk in the National Parks, follow the trail of the Cathares ( read The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail before you come ISBN 0-552-12138-X, I think that it’s a lot better than Da Vinci Code! ) and try to unravel one of Europe’s most intriguing mysteries. Search out the Via Domita (the Roman road running from Rome to Spain which is still visible in parts), or visit the Mediterranean ports of Meze, Bouzigues, Sete etc; eat seafood caught the same day in a restaurant overlooking the fishing boats, be impressed by the charm and informality of the area and enjoy yourself!
The Grottos, Aqua-land, St. Guilhem le Desert, canoeing, sea swimming, beaches, ........ etc!
Aumes is about 25 minutes from the sea. The nearest beaches are around Meze, Marseillan Plage and Cap d’Agde. A really good beach for the whole family is at Rochelongue. Ideal for younger children, there is a gradual slope into the water, and is protected by a breakwater. There are rock pools, and access is easy by car.
